AFC Hayes had one of those periods where everything they hit went in, and we seemed powerless to stop it. The hosts opened the scoring on four minutes, and made it 2-0 fifteen minutes into the game.
There was no let up, and with twenty minutes gone the game was already seemingly beyond us as a free kick was blocked and the loose ball poked home. It was 4-0 on the half hour, and with five minutes remaining to the half time interval Hayes struck again to give them a 5-0 lead going into the break.
Darren and Donny had already made a first half change introducing Alberto Lubango for Joshua Ano, and there was a second change at the interval, with Phil Page on for Asa Rixon.
Page had an instant impact scoring within a minute of his introduction, and with Hayes sitting back the lads started to get back into the game.
It wasn't though until the 79th minute when we struck again, with Daryl Cooper-Smith firing home for 5-2, and then three minutes later Cooper-Smith converted a spot kick for 5-3. Could a miraculous comeback really happen.
Unfortunately it wasn't to be, Kyle Henry curled home a stoppage time free kick, and you wondered if given a few more minutes we might have rescued something, but it wasn't to be.
We now have to pick ourselves up and try to end the season positively.
