Heartbreak for the Sunday A's

By Gary Brigden

Despite a valiant effort the A's went down to a 4-2 defeat against league leaders Mondial in the Junior Challenge Cup

Mondial struck first, in only the third minute a long throw picked out a player 25 yards out, and a stunning strike left keeper Jay Holden with no chance.

We responded positively, and after a couple of missed chances we finally levelled on 38 minutes through Joe Marshall, and Marshall struck again two minutes later to give us the lead.

Mondial levelled on the stroke of half time when we failed to clear a free kick allowing a close range finish.

The second half continued the excitement of the first, with Mondial capitalising on a mistake at the back to go ahead just after the hour. They then squandered a chance to go 4-2 ahead when Holden brilliantly saved a penalty.

With 15 to go we had a chance to level, but Paul Webber saw his spot kick well saved.

Mondial sealed the win with a close range finish on 87 minutes, to end our two year hold on the trophy.

Full report to follow.
