AFC Croydon Athletic had the better of the first half, with the clearer chances, but were unable to find a way through our rearguard. We were also finding it difficult to penetrate their backline, and inevitably half time came scoreless.
There had been a few flashpoints in the half, and Croydon had been reduced to ten men when their forward, having been booked for a foul on Mo Mallah, tried to block a quick Ollie Ellaway free kick, on 40 minutes and picked up a second yellow.
The second half saw us take the initiative, with George Baker twice going close to opening the scoring, before the Rams took the lead on 51 minutes, and increased their lead on 63 minutes.
We responded positively, and were back in the game on 71 minutes, when Mason Seagroatt fired home after good work by Charlie Reed and Alfie Carney, however in the melee that followed the goal, Reed and a Croydon defender saw red.
Despite pressure towards the end we were unable to force an equaliser and slipped to a second cup final defeat.
Full report to follow.
