First's into Vase 2nd Round
By Gary Brigden
The first team started their Fa Vase action in the First Proper Round when they hosted Cobham FC in an all-out Combined counties match.
After only 16 minutes gone on the clock, we made our first change of the game with the injured Ferdinando being replaced by new signing Marlon Pinder.
In the 18th minute we broke the deadlock after a great counter attack from a Cobham corner, when Ollie Twum was passed the ball in the middle of the field by Adam Allen and was able to use his pace to put pressure onto the Cobham defence creating space on the wing for him to be able to pass the ball out to a on running Kyle Henry who was able to collect the ball and continue his run into the box to nutmeg the keeper to give us lead.
The game started to slow down but tensions were rising when Cobham players started to pick up cautions for silly tackles.
In the 44th minute of the game we were given a chance to double our lead when we were awarded a penalty. Cobham players appealed against it, the ref consulted with his assistant but kept to his original decision.
In the 45th minute Matt Farrell was finally able to covert the penalty and give us a nice two goal lead with half time approaching.
In the 48th minute matters got worse for Cobham when their skipper was sent off for a second caution for a late challenge on Twum.
Half time came around with us leading by two goals and being an extra man up, but still all to play for in the second half.
The second half kicked off with neither team making any changes.
In the 60th minute we made our second change of the game with Callum MacLean being replaced by Jordan Gallagher
In the 65th minute Cobham halved the deficit when Adam Allen gave the ball away in the middle of the park, giving Cobham space to break into a slot home their real first chance of the game.
The lads started to see the game out until the final five minutes when Cobham started to come back alive in the game and started to put pressure onto our defence creating themselves some real chances.
In the 88th minute Cobham were down to nine men after their number 8 was sent off for a second caution for decent after appealing for a penalty that the ref and assistant didn’t give.
The lads were able to see out the game and put ourselves in the draw of the second round.
