First's see off Godalming Town
Unbeaten run moves onto 10.
The first team started brightly, with Matt Tanton, Marlon Rodney and Daryl Cooper-Smith in the opening minute set up Danny Fernandez, but his shot was saved by Dimitrios Kyriatkis. We continued to hold the upper hand, but it was Godalming who went close to opening the scoring when Gurkan Gokmen did well, and only a couple of timely interceptions from Jeff Addo-Dankwa prevented the visitors from opening the scoring.
Fernandez almost set up Cooper-Smith on eight minutes, but the forward blazed over, and was relieved to see the offside flag raised. A minute later and the roles were reversed, this time Fernandez beat the offside trap and deftly lifted the ball over Kyriatkis for 1-0.
Godalming responded positively, and after Aaron Bogle stepped up for offside, Jon Bennett was just unable to latch onto the through ball. On 13 minutes Cooper-Smith found Matt Auletta and his dangerous ball to Fernandez was well defended by Steve Betancourt.
Fernandez then released Rodney and his low cross shot was just behind Cooper-Smith and Kurt Greenaway was able to clear for a corner. We continued to put pressure on the Godalming defence, and from the corner Matt Farrell was bundled over and Cooper-Smith poked the loose ball wide.
Scott Elgar then almost threaded the ball through to Bennett for Godalming but we defended well and cleared the danger. Hakim Griffiths fired an effort from distance on 25 minutes which had Eacott sprawling away to his right to make the save.
It was 2-0 a minute later. Greenaway dawdled in possession, Auletta forced an error and poked the ball through to Cooper-Smith who thumped the ball home for 2-0.
Asa Rixon-Nicholls almost capitalised on an Auletta through ball, but Kyriatkis was out sharply, and from his long clearance Bennett was denied by the quick thinking Eacott. Cooper-Smith found Fernandez on the half hour, but his shot was gathered well by Kyriatkis.
Cooper-Smith found his way into the book on 32 minutes, and a minute later Betancourt followed him for not giving the ball back. Shortly before half time and Kyriatkis collected a Fernandez free kick under some pressure and from his clearance Tanton did well to clear the danger.
Alan Rodrigues then gifted possession to Fernandez thirty five yards from goal but his effort was over the crossbar. Half time came with us 2-0 to the good.
We started brightly in the second half, and after a good move down the right, Rixon-Nicholls cross was met by a weird volley by Fernandez and the ball cleared by Godalming. Five minutes in though and it should have been 3-0, Cooper-Smith split open the backline and Rodney was given the freedom of the Godalming half, but only succeeded in firing wide of the left hand post.
Darren Salmon made his first change on 52 minutes, with Andrew White replacing Marlon Rodney. Hastings launched a free kick into the Godalming area on 56 minutes, White headed back across goal, but bodies around the ball prevented Cooper-Smith from getting a decent shot away.
We continued to pressure the Godalming backline and White turned Rodrigues inside out, but he was unable to find a decent final ball.
On the hour Cooper-Smith found Auletta who in turn found Rixon-Nicholls, but his shot went wide of the right hand post. Kyriatkis then claimed a dangerous Fernandez free kick from just off Craig Hastings head.
Cooper-Smith lobbed over on 62 minutes, as the game was very much one way traffic. Farrell and Fernandez then linked up on 64 minutes to create a chance for Cooper-Smith, Betancourt defended well and Farrell fired the loose ball wide.
Addo-Dankwa made way for Anson Cousins on 66 minutes. Gokmen did well on 68 minutes and found Bennett who’s return ball was behind Gokmen and the chance went begging. Hastings then fouled Bennett giving Godalming a free kick in a dangerous position. Gokmen’s free kick was comfortable though for Eacott.
Fernandez was denied by a good save at his feet by Kyriatkis on 73 minutes, and three minutes later Izy Nzelo found substitute Bobby Bennett, who opted to find Piers Oldland rather than shooting himself, and Oldland’s effort flew high over the bar.
Gokmen ran Cousins again, and Eacott was forced into a decent low save. The game exploded from a Godalming point of view on 85 minutes when Griffiths reacted badly to not being given a free kick and saw a second yellow, with Betancourt following him for an early bath second later for continuing to argue the case.
We finished scoring in stoppage time when an Auletta cross was headed home by Cousins to make it ten games unbeaten.
