Auletta double sees off Spelly
The first team made it thirteen games unbeaten when they saw off Spelthorne Sports in a feisty contest on Monday night.
Spelthorne started brightly and forced a corner in the opening minute when a long ball over the top saw Luke Richards in a foot race with Matt Tanton and although the Spelthorne man got to the ball first, Tanton was able to force it behind for a corner which we cleared.
The game calmed for a bit, before we struck the opening goal in the seventh minute. A ball into Liam Holden saw him comfortably hold off the challenge of Graeme Edwards before hitting the deadball line and squaring to Matt Auletta who fired beyond Jake Tayler for 1-0.
We continued to hold the upper hand and should have increased our lead on the quarter hour. Matt Ferdinando spread play wide right to Holden, his low driven cross looked destined for Matt Fairbrother and a goal on his first start, but a tremendous challenge by Samuel Rees turned the ball behind, only for, inexplicably, a goal kick to be awarded.
Ferdinando then jinked passed a couple of players and found Auletta, who turned Jack Horsfall inside and out, but his low cross was turned over, on the stretch, by Holden. Two minutes later and Asa Rixon-Nicholls found Auletta, who once again deceived Horsfall, but could only fire his cross over the bar.
The visitors went close to equalising on 23 minutes, when Josh Remedios and Benjamin Thorne combined on the left, and set up Lewis Flatman but his shot was well saved by Michael Eacott away to his left.
It should have been 2-0 on 26 minutes. Andrew White and Holden combined to set up Bogle and his loopy cross was fumbled by Tayler under no pressure, but no SCR man was on hand to fire home the loose ball.
On 27 minutes a neat bit of play by Spelthorne ended with a hopeful ball into our area that Eacott was able to watch drift harmlessly behind for a goal-kick. A minute later and Remedios did well to get beyond Tanton and Bogle was forced to hook behind for a corner.
Scores should have been level on 33 minutes when a deep corner caused problems in our area, and after a scramble in our area the ball was hooked off the line, not sure by who, and we survived. Eacott then gathered another dangerous corner, taking an almighty clatter from the Craig Tomkins and leaving the big keeper in a heap.
Ferdinando almost released Fairbrother on 37 minutes but Edwards got across well and cleared the danger. From the corner we almost conceded as Spelthorne's lively Calum Beauchamp got beyond Bogle and White, only to see his low cross cut out by the SCR skipper and ricochet behind for a goal kick.
The visitors were well on top in the latter stages of the half, and it was no real surprise when they levelled things up. A deep corner was headed back across goal by Remedios and nodded home by Edwards, sending the sides in at 1-1 at the break.
Darren Salmon was forced into a change at the break with the injured Rixon-Nicholls replaced by the fit again Craig Nelson.
We started brightly and a neat link-up between Nelson and Ferdinando ended with Ferdinando's shot being well held by Tayler.
Both sides went close again in the opening ten minutes. From a corner on the right, Auletta saw his shot well held by the keeper, and at the other end a good strike by Flatman was deflected behind by Matt Farrell for a Spelthorne corner, and Tomkins's spectacular effort drifted harmlessly wide for a goal-kick.
Eacott was hit by a shocking tackle by Thorne on 55 minutes, earning the Spelthorne man a booking and leaving the SCR keeper requiring lengthy treatment.
Holden was next on the end of a poor challenge as Joe Dyet left him in a heap and earnt himself a booking. Ferdinando fired the resultant free kick round the wall but wide of the left hand post, with Tayler scrambling across his goal.
The visitors should have taken the lead on 65 minutes when a free header by Tomkins was hooked clear by Tanton. Back at the other end and good work by Ferdinando and Holden ended with a Ferdinando shot deflected behind for a corner, and White's flick from the corner went just wide.
Spelthorne replaced Tomkins and Thorne with John Roberts and Calum McKay with just under twenty minutes remaining. A minute later we retook the lead. Ferdinando picked up a long clearance by Bogle, and used the decoy run of Tanton to cut inside Samuel Rees and curl an unstoppable effort beyond Tayler for 2-1.
Almost immediately a tremendous crossfield ball by Remedios found Richards, but his run and cross was well defended by Craig Hastings at the near post.
With ten minutes remaining Salmon made his second change replacing Fairbrother who had impressed on his first start, with Sean Agun. Ferdinando fired another free kick wide on 82 minutes, and Spelthorne replaced Richards with Joe Tuck, and we made our final change with m.o.m. Holden replaced by Danny Fernandez.
Fernandez first action was to see him clattered by Tayler, earning the keeper a booking. From the free kick Farrell saw a shot saved, Auletta's follow up was blocked and Agun was unable to convert the loose ball.
Fernandez and Agun both went into the book, and nine minutes into stoppage time we sealed the game, when Auletta weaved passed five players to roll home.
