First's crash at Westfield
By Gary Brigden
The first team slumped to a disappointing defeat away at league leaders Westfield, taking a knock to their hopes of promotion this season.
Against a free-scoring side, you ideally want to keep things tight for the opening twenty minutes and build into the game, unfortunately this did not happen.
We kicked off, and 21 seconds later found ourselves 1-0 down, as mistakes from the kick off gifted Westfield possession and after a quick move, Adam Bellmaine fired home low to Michael Eacotts left. A minute later Tom Neale looked to have been felled in the area a minute later but was booked for simulation, which looked harsh to be fair.
Westfield continued to dominate, and increased their lead midway through the half. Marvin Roberts gifted possession to the prolific Max Blackmore, and the Combined Counties leading scorer fired home low to Michael Eacotts left for 2-0.
There was a controversial moment shortly before the break when Eacott was caught with a dreadful late challenge by Blackmore, but with a yellow card seemingly the lenient outcome, referee Zach Jacquart deemed the challenge worthy of only a talking to, much to the disgust of the SCR management.
Half time came with SCR having a mountain to climb.
At the start of the half we did make a bit of a fist of it, and put the hosts under a little bit of pressure, but on the hour a low cross was well gathered by Aaron Bufton in the Westfield goal, a quick throw and move later and it was 3-0, with young substitute Jason Dwunfuo rounding Eacott to score.
Dwunfuo added his second and Westfield's fourth on 77 minutes, SCR skipper Aaron Bogle cleared one off the line, and scoring was completed five minutes from time when Blackmore fired home his second.
