A win over Walton
By Gary Brigden
The first team was back in action this afternoon hosting Walton & Hersham and picked up a much-needed win.
The first team got off to a dream start when Guy Baskerville was able to connect his head onto the first corner of the game putting us 1-0 after only a minute. We were in control of the game holding onto a lot of the possession keeping Walton & Hersham pinned back in their own half.
We doubled our lead after 12 minutes when Adam Allen was able to pick up the ball in the middle of the pitch, and played a first time pass out to Ollie Twum who dribbled pass three Walton players to slot home from close range.
Walton halved the deficit in the 29th minute when Marlon Pinder was able to latch onto a loose ball after an initial save by Ollie Ellaway, from Harrison Deacon to slot home. During their celebration Malachi Robinson was booked for handball - having tried to save the goalbound effort by Pinder.
Half time arrived and Walton had started to find their footing in the game by being able to hold onto possession and start to create some attacking opportunities. We survived a first half scare when Craig's Hastings handball was missed by all officials.
We started the second half off by making our first substitution of the game with Phil Page coming on for Josh Uzun.
It took only 5 minutes for Page to get stuck in when in the 50th minute he latched onto a loose ball in the Walton box smashing his effort into the top of the net giving the keeper no chance.
In the 55th minute Walton found their second of the game when Harrison Deacon was able to find some space to run into to get in front of the tracking defender to slot home at Ellaway’s near post.
In the 70th minute we made our second substitution of the game with Ben Senior replacing Johny Akoto and a minute later we extended our lead back to two goals when Baskerville was again able to connect onto a corner and head home for his second of the game.
We made our third and final change in the 78th minute when Callum MacLean was replaced by Casey McCabe. We were able to see out the final ten minutes of the game to give us our fourth win of the season and our first in last four games
A great game by the lads today and a very crucial win and three points.
