ROVERS PICK UP A POINT AGAINST THE TANNERS

A Max Oldham goal ten minutes before the interval gave Rovers a share of the spoils in an entertaining encounter with Leatherhead on Bank Holiday Monday.

Rovers were indebted to a superb save low to his right early on by James Dillon, as the visitors had the better of the opening exchanges. In particular Kwesi Ntim and Daniel Hector were causing the Rovers backline problems with their direct and pacy attacks.

Leatherhead struck on 27 minutes, a mix up between Siao Blackwood and Antonio Simeone let in Hector and he fired low beyond Dillon for 1-0.

Rovers responded positively and were level inside ten minutes when neat play on the left between Tobe Uzor and Tyler Cox ended with a low Courtney Swaby cross being bundled home by Max Oldham.

The visitors though would have gone in at the break disappointed to be level.

It was a different Rovers that came out in the second half and they took the game to Leatherhead, but were unable to force a crucial winning goal.

Gabriel Odunaike went close after being released by Oldham, and another substitute Liam Holden saw his effort ruled out for an obstruction on the keeper (we think).

Rovers survived a late scare when Dillon picked up a long range backpass, but Rovers smuggled the ball clear, and the spoils were shared.

The results leaves both sides still in with a chance of achieving their aims, although they will need several results to go their way and to win their remaining games.
