23S BOW OUT OF LEAGUE CUP

It was a poor night on Wednesday as the 23s bowed out of the John Bennett Development Division league cup, as they lost 3-0 away at Hillingdon Borough.

The lads were hampered by the lack of a recognised goalkeeper, meaning outfield players shared the duties.

Manager Michael Talabi had this to say after the game.

“Sutton Common Rovers fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Hillingdon Borough U23s in a game marred by challenging conditions. Dense fog engulfed the pitch, and the surface was more suited to mud wrestling than football.

The absence of a recognized goalkeeper proved costly for SCR, with two outfield players splitting the duties between the posts. Hillingdon Borough, young and hungry, capitalized on the situation, showcasing energy and determination to dominate the second balls and punish defensive lapses.

Two first-half goals gave the home side a strong foundation, with a third added in the second half to seal a well-deserved victory. SCR, by contrast, struggled to find their usual rhythm. Attacking play was disjointed, defending left much to be desired, and their overall performance fell far short of the standards expected.

While the conditions were far from ideal, SCR will need to reflect on their approach and desire after this loss. For Hillingdon Borough, it was a commanding and well-earned win.”
