Sutton Common Rovers U23 returned in style with a resounding 4-1 victory over Hillingdon Borough U23. Two goals each from Didja and Billy sealed the win, marking a positive return to action. The first half, however, was far from perfect, as the team struggled with control and decision-making, leading to a 1-1 scoreline at halftime. It was a frustrating period where the cohesion and sharpness that the team is known for seemed absent.
In the second half, things took a notable turn for the better. Although the performance wasn’t flawless, the team showed more intent and composure, resulting in three crucial goals. Didja and Billy stepped up when it mattered, displaying excellent finishing that reflected their focus and determination. The team’s movement off the ball improved, opening up spaces that were exploited efficiently, giving the opposition little chance to respond.
There’s no doubt that this result is a step in the right direction. However, the overall performance leaves room for growth, and the players know they are capable of much more. The second half showed glimpses of what this squad can achieve when firing on all cylinders. As the season progresses, consistency and refinement will be key to unlocking the full potential of this talented group.
A solid start to the campaign, but expectations remain high.
Big thanks to manager Michael Talabi for the words
