It come to something given Rovers currently table woes when the opposition chairman, of a side that has just won 3-0, says that their keeper was probably the outstanding performer on their side. Don’t get me wrong Uxbridge were deserved winners, but if you were to pick one player who stood out, in what was a very solid team performance, then George Legg, with a string of fine saves was probably that man.
The visitors started brightly moving the ball around neatly but it was Rovers who had the first effort on goal, Christian Adugyamfi shrugged off the attentions of Kai Hobbs but saw his effort well saved by Legg.
On the quarter hour a poor clearance dropped to Daniel Fosu, who deftly lifted the ball over Evangelos Empochontsif before seeing his left footed effort well saved by Kacper Orlowski. Uxbridge struck the opening goal on 16 minutes, a ball down the left saw Fabio Sole get away and his low cross was collected by Fosu who spun and fired low beyond Orlowski. We had a glorious chance to equalise two minutes later, Isaac Kamin threaded a ball through to Dan Pepple but his low shot was again well saved by Legg.
Fosu bought a good save out of Orlowski low to his left on 20 minutes, after Uxbridge broke quickly from our throw in. Adugyamfi fired over the bar on 26 minutes and back at the other end a point blank header was well saved by Orlowski.
Rovers forced a corner on the half hour and from the well worked set play routine Isaac Nkosi saw his effort deflected over the bar. Ten minutes from the break and Fosu saw a shot fly just wide of the left hand post. Legg claimed well after a decent delivery into the area by Manny Kwatchey.
Leo Decabo put an effort wide on 40 minutes and three minutes later confusion in the Rovers defence between Nkosi and Empochontsif left Jonathan Hippolyte with a chance but his effort flew wide of the target and Uxbridge took a slender 1-0 lead into the interval.
Scores should have been level early in the second half, Pepple and Kamin linked up well to create a chance for Adugyamfi but this time he was denied by the left boot of Legg. Orlowski then saved well from a low drive by Harry Rush.
Uxbridge forced a couple of half chances as they looked for the second goal that would give them some breathing space, but the Rovers backline was defending resolutely. Midway through the half and Empochontsif did well to cut out a dangerous low cross by Sole.
Rovers had to go for it and started pushing more people forward, and created a decent chance to level things up on 74 minutes, when Cameron Dobell and Frankie Maciocia combined to put a dangerous ball into the area, but from the lightning break Uxbridge increased their. A ball down the right led to a low cross being turned home at the back post by Fosu.
Pepple did superbly on 77 minutes to hold off the challenge of Hobbs and from his low cross Maciocia missed his kick, and Uxbridge were able to scramble the ball clear and with it went potentially any chance of Rovers getting back into the game.
Scoring was completed on 87 minutes, when neat play down the left eventually saw the ball reach Dernell Wynter who crashed a curling effort beyond Orlowski for 3-0 and all three points to the visitors.
