A much depleted first team went down to a defeat by the odd goal in seven, in a thriller down on the blustery south coast this afternoon.
Rovers kicked with the wind in the first half, and took the lead just after the half hour when Charlie Stallard played a delightful ball down the line to Ezra Agyiri, and the young winger – on his first Rovers start – cut inside his full back and crashed an effort home off the underside of the bar.
Rovers took a one goal lead in at the break.
The second half saw the hosts dominate much of the possession, with the Rovers defence holding firm, and with twenty minutes to go the visitors still held the lead.
The final 20 minutes were something out of a computer game, with goals flying in left right and centre. Moneyfield equalised on 71 minutes when a corner into the near post was powerfully headed home by Tom Jeffes and three minutes later they hit the front when James Franklyn cut inside and fired beyond Prince Adegoke at his near post.
Rovers responded positively and levelled on 78 minutes when another Stallard delivery was met by Christian Adugyamfi and he powerfully headed Rovers level, and almost immediately Daniel Pepple pounced on a loose ball in the Moneys area to fire Rovers ahead.
With time running out it looked as though the long trip to the south coast would see Rovers rewarded with all three points, or a point at the very worst, but fate was to deal a final twist.
A penalty saw the Moneys level through Scott Hills on 89 minutes and the scoring was completed in injury time when Isaac Kamin fired home to give the hosts all three points.
