First goals for the club from Courtney Swaby and Gabriel Odunaike, plus another from Antonio Simeone saw a dominant Rovers pick up their first ever FA Trophy win on Saturday, when they saw off hosts Merstham in the First Qualifying Round.

For thirty cagey minutes there was little to trouble either goalkeeper, and most in attendance were already predicting 0-0 and penalties.

Rovers were getting on top though, and went close to opening the scoring shortly before the break, when a fierce Swaby drive was superbly saved by Zac Basey in the Merstham goal. Minutes later and a fierce Nabeel Ghannam was turned away by the keeper and the sides went in level at the break.

Rovers broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half when a surging run from the halfway line by Swaby had the Merstham defenders backpeddling and the Rovers midfield dynamo unleashed a 25 yarder into the top corner for his first goal for the club.

It was 2-0 just before the hour when Aaron Jenkins won a free kick on the left and from the low delivery Simeone fired home to give Rovers some breathing space.

Merstham rallied, but found the Rovers backline in dominant form, and the visitors increased their lead with twenty minutes remaining, a fizzed low drive by Charlie Martin was turned home by the popular Odunaike for 3-0.

Rovers saw out the game without incident, to set up a tough away tie at Badshot Lea in the next round.
