First’s late late show see’s off the Green Lions

With the clock ticking passed the 90 minute mark, and the side 1-0 down against visiting Guernsey, it looked for all the world that the Green Lions would return to the Channel Islands with all three points and maintain their 100% record against Rovers.

But the game turned on its head in a stunning three minute burst from Rovers which saw them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Guernsey took the lead early in the first half with a deft Charlton Gauvain header beating James Dillon for 1-0. As much as Rovers huffed and puffed, once again they hit a force field around the Guernsey goal and when Aaron Jenkins saw a late first half penalty saved, you guessed it would be another one of “those” Guernsey encouters.

Chances came and went in the second half, and the Green Lions looked set to leave with the win, but on 95 minutes Rovers seemed to have snatched a share of the spoils, when Gabriel Odunaike outmuscled the Guernsey central defender allowing substitute Nabeel Ghannam to crash home the equaliser.

Amazingly their was still another twist, a ball forward found Ghannam and entering the area he managed to set up another substitute in Ashley Sheppard and he hammered the ball home to send players and fans into raptures.

Full report to follow.
