The First team hand a first league start to Michael Samson and a debut for Michael Sarpong as they looked to end a run of results that had seen them pick up one win from ten games.

Rovers started the brighter going into the stiff wind, but despite seeing a goal chalked off for a foul on Danny Bracken, were unable to force an opening and the Sparks started to come back into the game, and things became something of a stalemate.

The Sparks struck the opening goal on 31 minutes, a deep free kick was headed back across goal by Jamal Abubakari, fired against the bar by Peter Ojemen, and Louis Collins reacted quickest to fire home the loose ball. Shortly after the lively Vinnie Tume missed a glorious chance to give the hosts a two goal lead.

The game settled again, and we started to get our way back into things, and with five to go to the break an eagle eyed assistant referee spotted an infringement in the South Park area, handing us the opportunity to level from the spot, and Daniel Pepple duly obliged, sending Bracken the wrong way to square things up.

Any hopes of going in level at the break were ended on the stroke of half time, a flowing move down the left ended with Antonio Morgan picking out Callum Corbin in the middle of the park, he shifted the ball passed one Rovers defenders before firing through a crowd to give the Sparks a 2-1 lead at the break.

Rovers kicked with the fierce wind in the second half and were looking to get themselves back into the game. That said it was a fairly tame start to the half, with the clearest chance falling to the hosts, but a close range volley cleared our net, after good work by keeper Prince Adegoke had foiled the initial attack.

We levelled things up on 68 minutes, a deep corner by Luke Ige being powerfully headed home by Bert Lloyd for 2-2 and game on. Rovers should now have pressed home the advantage, they were in the ascendancy in terms of getting back into the game, and had a stiff breeze behind them. However they were to once again be masters of the own downfall.

With just over ten minutes remaining we were caught in possession trying to play out from the back and Corbin was left with a simple finish to give the Sparks all three points.

Rovers now sit just outside the relegation zone on goals scored, and look to be in a battle with Badshot, Met Police, Ashford and Guernsey to avoid the four relegation places this season.
