The First team put the heartache of relegation behind them on Monday when recording their best Step 4 performance away at an in-form Rayners Lane.
Darren Salmon and Lee Flavin made three changes to the side that had lost against Ascot Utd, with Faebian Witter, George Bond and Remi Onabanjo returning to the starting line up, missing out were Kacper Orlowski, Steven Sylvester-Adjua and the unavailable Aaron Bogle.
The lads were off to an incredible start, and after only nine minutes found themselves three goals to the good.
After only four minutes Remi Onabanjo capitalised on a poor clearance from Lane keeper (and former SCR keeper) Endurance Johnson and launched an effort back over the keepers head for 1-0; almost immediately it was 2-0 when Daniel Pepple notched his first of the afternoon from close range.
If that start was good, on nine minutes Rovers were in dreamland, the ball dropped to the popular Isaac Kamin fully 30 yards out and his strike on the half-volley went like a missile into the net leaving the keeper with no chance.
Rayners Lane were shellshocked, but to their credit dug in and were rewarded shortly before the break when the lively Baller Leaguer Marvin Sordell capitalised on a loose ball to poke home and give the hosts hope.
Early in the second half that hope disappeared when an altercation in the corner between Pepple and Anthony Cook ended with the Lane defender seeing a straight red.
Rovers pressed home their advantage and for once made 10 men look like 10 men and not 12 men as is so often the case.
Pepple made it 4-1 on 52 minutes converting from the spot and two minutes later he completed his hat-trick, great work on the flank by Lesedi Mbegabolawe saw his low cross turned home at the back post.
Scoring was completed just after the hour when a break down the left ended with a neat one-two and youngster George Bond, from the U18’s, was on hand to turn home his first goal for the club.
Rovers introduced Christian Adugyamfi and Mohamed Wahaleye for Remi Onabanjo and Isaac Kamin, but there was little further action, save a late substitution, with the popular back up keeper Louie Erotokritos Staussi coming on for some well deserved minutes late on, replacing the excellent Faebian Witter.
We may be going down, but we are not going quietly. One more game and a chance to end with a win against Met Police.
