OLDHAM STRIKES TO SECURE PLAY OFF PLACE

At the end of a tough season the lads raised themselves to pick up a vital three points against Ashford Town to earn themselves a relegation play off against a yet unknown Step 5 side, for the right to play step 4 football next season.

Knowing only a win would secure a play off place, any other result would see us automatically down, it was an understandable cagey start, but we were defensively sound and causing a few problems going forward.

Half time though came scoreless.

The only goal of the game arrived on the hour mark. Conan Torpey found Nabeel Ghannam, his shot was blocked but the rebound fell kindly to Max Oldham who notched his second goal in consecutive home games.

We weathered a late Ashford surge, and the single goals takes us into the play off, whilst for Ashford, there is Step 4 football next season after Merstham could only draw with Westfield.
