POLICE WIN TO END OUR ISTHMIAN TIME WITH A LOSS

Despite a battling perfomance against relegation threatened Met Police the lads were undown by two late goals in quick succession on their way to a 2-0 defeat.

The Police opened the brighter, knowing that anything other than defeat would secure their Step 4 status for another season, and they clearly wanted to take no chances. Early on a Jamal Sharpe volley was deflected wide, as Rovers were slow out of the blocks.

Rovers best chance of the half came on 23 minutes through youngster George Bond, who has impressed on his late season cameo of appearances, and his fizzed effort from distance flew just over the bar.

The opening goal came on 83 minutes when Rovers failed to clear a long throw and in the goalmouth scramble Izvnna Ikebuasi poked home from close range and two minutes later, with Rovers chasing the game, a ball over the top found Mason Galloway and his finish secured the Met’s status.

For Rovers it was a disappointing end to a tough campaign, but at least in April they showed some spirit and didn’t go down with a whimper.

We assume next season with be in the Combined Counties Premier South, but hey who knows what the FA may decide to do with us.
