ROVERS DENT FIELD’S PLAY OFF HOPES

Rovers battled their way to a vital point away at an in-form play off chasing Westfield on Saturday.

After an early Mal Thomas drive was well saved by Sonny Wheeler, it was the hosts who started to dominate, and young Rovers keeper Sam Roberts was forced into a string of fine saves, to help send his side in level at the break.

Roberts twice denied Westfield early in the second half, before the hosts took the lead on the hour. The impressive Jacob Breckon bundling the ball home from close range.

Rovers responded positively and were level on 73 minutes. A ball from the right found substitute Lindell Stewart and his fierce strike from a tight angle levelled things up.

Stewart was instrumental in Rovers almost fashioning an equaliser, going down under a challenge with just three minutes remaining. Unfortunately Max Oldham saw his spot kick strike a post, and the points were shared.
