ROVERS PICK UP A POINT ON THE ROAD

A Conan Torpey goal with twenty minutes remaining was enough to give the first team a point in a hugely entertaining encounter away at league newcomers Ascot Utd.

We started brightly but found hosts keeper Hugo Sobte in excellent form, and it was the hosts who struck first on the half hour, Harry Grant firing home to send Ascot into the break a goal to the good.

Sobte continued to thwart Rovers, especially Nabeel Ghannam, but was powerless to do anything to prevent Torpey from levelling things up on 71 minutes.

There will naturally be some frustrations at not getting all three points, but similarly our hosts will feel they had enough opportunities to win the game, so in all fairness a draw was probably the correct result.
