ROVERS PROVE TOO BRIGHT FOR THE SPARKS

The First’s picked up a vital three points on Wednesday night, and moved themselves up to 13th in the table, thanks to a hard-fought 3-0 win over play off chasing South Park Reigate.

South Park arrived with just one defeat in their previous nine games, but Rovers were at them from the off, and aside from a brief spell midway through the second half, were always in control.

Rovers struck on 20 minutes when a spell of pressure led to a Mal Thomas cross being forced home by Aaron Jenkins. The visitors almost responded on the half hour but Sam Roberts saved bravely at Aidan Brown’s feet.

The second half saw little goalmouth action, with Rovers seemingly content to soak up whatever South Park could throw at them, whilst keeping the visitors on their toes with the pace of Ollie Twum (on his 100th appearance) and Thomas.

With time running out, Rovers were given a perfect opportunity to seal the win, when substitute Lindell Stewart was fouled by William Grieveson, but Max Oldham saw his spot kick saved by Danny Bracken.

However just two minutes later and on the other side of the box, Grieveson needlessly bundled over Jenkins, and this time Oldham made no mistake from the spot to give Rovers a two goal lead.

In stoppage time the scoring was completed, man of the match Ash Sheppard saw his shot half blocked, but Stewart reacted quickest to fire beyond Bracken for 3-0.
